MOMA submission 10.12.2017

Last week, I received a letter in the mail from the Chief Curator of Drawing and Prints at The Museum of Modern Art, notifying me that my submission would be on display! Before you get too excited, let me tell you that my submission was part of a MOMA and New York Times sponsored exhibit. They commissioned Yoko Ono to create a full-page insert in the Sunday NYT, and anyone who wanted to participate could tear that page out, color it, and mail it to Yoko at the MOMA. Ms. Ono called it “Peace is Power.” Of course I jumped at the chance, mainly to send personal mail to Yoko Ono. I didn’t realize that the submissions were to be put on display at MOMA!

Here’s the colored page I sent in.

The instructions were to color where the world needs peace, so I got out my yellow acrylic paint and colored the whole damn world! And then I added a “To Yoko Love, Rachel” note on it;)

Here’s the letter I got last week.

And a closer view of the letter.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to take the museum up on their offer of free admission.

It’s probably the only time my art will ever grace the walls or halls of MOMA, and at least it’s happened while I’m still alive! Even though I wrote at the beginning of this post that you shouldn’t get too excited, I’m pretty darn thrilled about the whole thing. I know it’s just a colored page, but still, it’s pretty awesome news!
