It’s midwinter here in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. When I look up the definition of midwinter, it’s the winter solstice. But I feel like it’s the middle of winter right now – halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. The daylight hours are getting longer, the sun is shining higher, but it’s still very cold, with a lot of snow and ice. Last week I slipped and fell on ice that was hidden by new fallen snow. Thankfully, I didn’t end up with broken bones – only sore muscles.
I’ve been selecting warmer colors to play with, perhaps because I’m hoping warmth will return to Wisconsin soon. The circles in this piece were made by tracing quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies with a pencil. Then I added watercolor. It was simple, fun, satisfying, and I like the finished piece.
I like it too. It’s unique and I love the color combinations. Makes me wanna try it!
